I love Valentine’s Day.
There. I said it. I love Valentine’s Day and I’m single. -GASP!- Blasphemy. How could I betray all my fellow single human beings and embrace a holiday for couples?
Today I told someone happy Valentine’s Day and he said, “oh, I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. When you’re married as long as my wife and I, it’s just another day.”
That made me sad for multiple reasons (also, future husband: if you ever say that, you can plan on not being my husband for long). HERE’S WHY, folks.
I love Valentine’s Day because I’ve practically been “single” my WHOLE life. It’s something I’m comfortable with and something I enjoy and prefer most of the time. That’s just how I am. So, that being said, on Valentine’s Day I’ve never really celebrated a romantic relationship. Instead, I celebrate the love I have for my friends and the love I have for my family.
I celebrate the love I have for myself and for my future. I celebrate the love I have for whatever city I’m residing in at the time. I celebrate the love I have for beautiful things and twinkle lights. I celebrate my love of strangers and the people who smile back at me when I smile at them first. I celebrate my love for everything that makes me happy.
Of course, I should celebrate these things everyday. And I do. Trust me. There isn’t a day when I leave work and walk to my bus stop when I don’t think about how lucky and blessed I am to be following my dreams. There isn’t a single time when I look at the Metro trains or the Washington Monument and don’t feel butterflies in my stomach and my face turn into a smile. I love these things with my whole entire being. Today I took a little bit more time to appreciate these things. I took a minute to tell all of my favorite people and close friends Happy Valentine’s Day.
Not because it’s a commercial holiday. Not because I felt like it was what I was supposed to do. Not because I expected something in return.
But because I love these people and I wanted them to know that I’m always thinking of them. I hope they all know how much I love them everyday, not just today, but sometimes it’s nice to just have a day where we can all celebrate a little bit of love- no matter who or what it is for.
So, I love you tumblr.I love you. I love you. I love you. &I hope that you all had a lovely day and continue to have a great week. <3

Lots of truth and optimism here that we’d all do well to remember.

I agree so very much.
